Poject Details

De Smet Jesuit High School is a faith-based learning environment for young men. With their growing student population and today’s technological requirements, expansion of the athletic fields, classrooms, science labs and computer labs were needed. In 2003, code upgrades in the existing building and site lighting modifications enhanced the life safety and night-time image. The school’s additions and modifications are aesthetically blended with the existing campus.

In 2005, an existing meeting room was converted to a retail area for selling books, clothing and other school related items. A storefront window was created and air conditioning was added to the bookstore and the classroom above.

A new storage room for gymnasium equipment was also constructed as part of the project. A new coiling door was cut into the existing gym wall, providing direct access from the gym into the storage room. All the work was completed over the 2005 summer break.

When De Smet Jesuit High School decided to undertake major exterior athletic facility improvements, M+H was selected to be the design team leader. The existing 6 lane running track and natural grass infield utilized for football were modified and enlarged. A new 8 lane synthetic surface track now encircles a synthetic turf infield large enough to contain a full size soccer field, pole vault and dual long jump runways, and a high jump area, in addition to the football field. New stadium lights and poles are also included. A new plaza has paved the way to the existing stadium bleachers and includes the addition of a new press box storage facility and an open air pavilion. In the interest of equality, the baseball program also received attention with improvements to the baseball field. Dugouts have been replaced, along with the addition of a new press box, grandstand, backstop and storage building, all with permanent masonry construction.
